There are many home remedies for cough, and turmeric milk is one of the home remedies. If you are not aware how the milk is prepared, you need not worry. But, before that I would like to dose you with the benefits of turmeric, which is a magical healer and so rightly deserves to be called a boon on mankind.

Turmeric Milk Recipe

It is very easy to make turmeric milk and it demands no expertise in cooking. You can use any milk, though cow or goat milk should be preferred. All that you need to prepare this wonder milk is a teaspoon each of turmeric and sugar, and a cup of milk (and a container).
Procedure: Take a cup of already boiled milk and add one spoon sugar into it. Add this in a container, and then bring it to boil by heating. Turn off the heat and add turmeric into the hot sweetened milk. Stir the mixture well till the turmeric is completely dissolved. It will naturally get a bright yellow color. Pour the milk in the cup and gulp it hot. It wouldn't taste that good but surely better than the bitter medicinal tablets!
You should preferably take this before going to bed. Drinking this Ayurveda backed milk for 2-3 days will relieve your cough. I would recommend you to drink this milk even when you notice minor signs of cough and cold, as a precautionary measure. Some more turmeric based remedies are given below.

Other Home Remedies Using Turmeric

If you are lactose intolerant and cannot consume milk, we have another home remedy for you. Take a glass of water, and add finely grated ginger, and a pinch each of turmeric and pepper into it. Bring this mixture to a boil. Pour it in a glass, and after allowing it to cool for sometime, drink it.
A combination of jaggery with turmeric is also a Grandma's favorite remedy to treat cough. Don't eat it, but allow it to remain at the side of your mouth and melt. If not jaggery, a spoonful of turmeric mixed with honey is effective too. Gulp down a spoonful of this mixture once in an hour or two.

A mixture of turmeric and milk cream is a homemade remedy for beautiful skin, and in India it is an important marriage ritual to massage the body of the prospective bride and groom with turmeric mixed with either water or milk. These were the benefits I knew prior to researching, thanks to my mother!
After doing some research on the Internet, I was left astonished with the myriad health benefits of turmeric. The scientific name for turmeric is Curcuma longa, and it has been used in India and other Asian countries for its healing properties since a very long time (more than 2000 years). Scientists believe that turmeric helps in its own way in treating diseases like Alzheimer's disease, cancer, leukemia, and liver and skin diseases. Turmeric is a must-have spice in every household because, apart from its use as a spice it is a first aid tool.
