You wake up early in the morning and you have a lot of important work to do; but you have no clue how you are going to complete your tasks because of a terrible headache that you have. And, for the moment, you cannot think of anything, except, how to cure the headache quickly.
The throbbing pain in the head is a migraine or sinus headache, which has kept your activity and work on hold. Headaches caused due to any reason are extremely troublesome and can lead to a lot of discomfort. You may not wish to go for over-the-counter medications to relieve headache as they can cause dependency.
Therefore, you may wonder if there any natural methods to treat headache. Well, a lot has been said about the use of peppermint oil to treat headache. Here, we will take a look at it in detail.

Using Peppermint Oil to Cure Headache

Peppermint oil is easily available in the market. One of the most important things to remember before using this oil is that its effect varies from person to person. Some people are very sensitive to it and may develop a rash on using it.
Therefore, it is advisable to try one drop of oil on a patch of skin and see the effect before using it for headaches. If it does not cause any reaction or rash, you can use it safely. The following are some of the methods in which peppermint oil can be used.
  • Applying peppermint oil directly onto the forehead to get rid of pain is the most common and also the simplest method of using this oil. You can take 1-2 drops of the oil on your fingers and massage the oil slowly on the forehead.
You should be careful while applying it and avoid using it very near to the eye. You can follow this method for 2-3 times a day to relieve your headache.
  • Secondly, you can add 2-3 drops of peppermint oil in hot water and inhale the steam. You should boil the water in a bowl, add 2-3 drops of peppermint oil in it, lean over the hot water pot, cover your head with a towel and then inhale the steam.
This method helps in treating headache caused due to sinus problems. Only adults are recommended to use this method.
In case you find that the concentrated peppermint oil is irritating your skin, you can mix it in equal parts of extra virgin olive oil and then apply it to the skin.
Along with oil, peppermint tinctures and peppermint tea have also been found to be equally beneficial. In fact, the tincture is less concentrated than the oil and hence, there are less chances of side effects.
