Marlene Alphonse
Organic argan oil is extracted from the seeds of the argan tree, and is a multipurpose oil. Considered to be an excellent home remedy to combat many problems related to the skin and body, this essential oil can be availed from beauty stores and even online.
Argan, whose botanic name is Argania spinosa, is a tree native to Morocco. The oil which is extracted from the kernels of this tree is the rare organic argan oil. This is a multipurpose oil, which has numerous benefits since it has cosmetic, medicinal, and nutritive properties.
Before the oil is extracted, the kernels are completely dried and their outer skin is removed. They are then roasted to give a nutty flavor to the oil. These roasted kernels are then ground, adding water till a thick paste is formed.
The oil is then extracted by the traditional method, i.e., pressing the kernel paste with the hands. This extraction method produces only one liter of organic argan oil, which has a shelf life of approximately 6 months. Nowadays, oil is extracted using hi-tech machines which reduces the laborious process.
Argan oil is used as a culinary oil, in beauty products, and in certain medicines. There are also many products which use argan oil as a main ingredient. Some of the products are massage oils, body milk and soap, shampoos, shower gels, etc. It is an excellent home remedy for acne, psoriasis, and other skin disorders.
Beneficial Properties of Argan Oil
There are many benefits of this oil, as it is a rich source of nutrients that are essential for the proper functioning of the body. Organic argan oil is very beneficial for the scalp as it moisturizes the hair from the root to the tip. Another benefit is that it reduces the occurrence of split ends and promotes hair growth.
Since it is non-greasy, it is readily absorbed by the scalp, and retains its moisture to provide hair that has sheen and health. It acts as natural shield for the hair and prevents hair damage caused due to pollution and the harmful UV rays of the sun. This oil prevents dryness of the scalp and protects it from dandruff and head lice.
Argan oil is a rich source of vitamin E and is also used in various skincare products. It is an excellent moisturizer for dry skin, prevents the outbreak of acne, and reduces the greasiness of oily skin. Argan oil decreases the visibility of scars, age wrinkles, burn marks, and blemishes caused by chickenpox.
This oil also reduces the occurrence of stretch marks during pregnancy. Using mineral makeup dehydrates the skin and makes it dry and stretchy. Applying this organic oil not only rejuvenates dry skin, but it also brings back the lost glow.
Since argan oil is rich in omega 3 essential fatty acids, it protects the cardiovascular system from a number of diseases like clogged arteries, atherosclerosis, and inflammation of the heart muscles. It also has antioxidants which fight against free radicals in the body, and prevent the attack of certain diseases.
It keeps a check on the levels of cholesterol and enhances the synthesis of prostaglandins, a type of hormone which supports various body functions like controlling blood pressure, proper dilation and constriction of the blood vessels, and relaxation and contraction of the smooth muscles.
Organic argan oil also has anti-inflammatory properties, which help in reducing the inflammation and pain in the joints caused due to arthritis. Though there are many good reviews, there is one drawback of this oil. This oil is expensive and some products contain only traces of argan oil. Before buying any product, check for the contents of argan oil.
Organic argan oil has many benefits for the hair, skin, and entire body. In culinary preparations, the oil not only adds nutrients to the food, but also improves its taste greatly.
