Myrrh has many uses because of its medicinal properties like antifungal, analgesic, anti-microbial, healing, astringent, and stimulant.
There are many uses of myrrh, but one needs to take it in the appropriate dosage. Overconsumption of myrrh can lead to certain side effects. So, it is very important that a person follows the treatment involving myrrh in the recommended dosage.
It is safe when used in proper dosage and suits most people, but it causes skin rashes in some people when it is used directly. It can also cause diarrhea in some people when it is taken orally. However, when taken in the proper dosage, this alternative medicine has the following uses.

Uses of Myrrh When Taken Internally

  • When it is taken internally, it helps in the treatment of stomach problems and chest ailments.
  • It also helps to get rid of bronchial infections like sore throat.
  • Women suffering from menstrual problems can also get relief by taking myrrh internally.

Myrrh Benefits When Used Externally

When it is applied topically, it can cure many skin ailments and it is also used to cure mouth-related problems.
  • When used externally it helps in treating infected wounds and minor skin inflammations.
  • It also helps in sinus infection treatment and in curing bronchial conditions and stomatitis.
  • For mouth-related problems like mouth ulcers, gingivitis, or inflammation of gums and mouth myrrh can be used.

Aromatherapy Uses

Myrrh due to its healing and stimulant properties is used a lot in aromatherapy. Some important uses of myrrh in aromatherapy are:
  • It aids in detox. It is especially beneficial in getting rid of mucus and also prevents infection and promotes regeneration of cells and tissues.
  • It acts as a uterine stimulant and helps in treating stomach and mouth conditions.
  • Women with irregular menstrual cycles can use myrrh for promoting menstruation.
  • It helps to treat sores and wounds and is beneficial in treating skin disorders like weeping eczema wounds, skin ulcers, and bed ulcers. It can also be used on mature skin for treating deep cracks on feet or hands.

For Throat Infections

This homeopathy remedy is useful for people suffering from dry cough, coughing, scratchy itchy throat, and common throat infections. In a glass of lukewarm water, add ½ a teaspoon of myrrh.
Gargle with this solution and drink it. Repeat this remedy 3 - 4 times a day, till you find relief. Myrrh with its analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties will greatly help to cure throat infection.

For Mouth Infections

To cure mouth infections, add 30 drops of myrrh tincture in a glass of lukewarm water. Mix well and gargle with this solution to get rid of the mouth infection.

For Dry Lips

It greatly helps to treat dry, cracked, and mature skin. To use it for skin care of lips, add 25 drops of myrrh to 1 ounce of lip balm and mix well. The lip balm will greatly aid in healing chapped and dry lips.
Avoid taking myrrh if you are pregnant or breast feeding. People with diabetes, heart conditions, or having fever also need to avoid any usage of myrrh. People with uterine bleeding or who are scheduled for surgery within next 2 weeks need to avoid the use of myrrh.
Though there are many uses of myrrh, it is not suitable for several people and can cause side effects to people who suffer from the above mentioned conditions.
