Treatment

The following are some remedies that help you get rid of this problem, and are also very simple to acquire and consume. They do not require much money or time, and their effectiveness is believed to be guaranteed.

Blow Your Nose

Blowing your nose regularly is the best solution. In most cases, it is the mucus that flows from your nose into the back of your throat that causes the irritation, so if you get rid of it from the nose there are less chances of the mucus irritating your throat.

Gargle

This is another great remedy. Gargling constantly clears out your nasal passages and flushes out all the toxins and kills the germs. The best kind of throat mucus treatment is one that kills the germs completely. Saline water is the best solution to gargle with. Lukewarm saline water would be ideal.

Avoid Cold Foods

If you happen to consume anything that is cold at this time, the mucus in your throat will only increase. Any treatment will be absolutely useless if you are consuming something cold at the same time. Cold water, ice cream, dairy products, and alcoholic beverages are all known to aggravate this condition.

Ginger and Honey Paste

Another great remedy that you can try out is consuming a paste of ginger and honey. Both these items are great healers and provide the body with a lot of natural protection against germs, and as a result a paste that contains both of them will be very effective in killing off the mucus that is present in the back of your throat.

Quit Smoking

As you may have noticed, smoking only aggravates this condition, and makes you cough more. If you are a habitual smoker you must stop smoking immediately and give your body some time to recuperate.

Vitamin C

Consuming large quantities of vitamin C. There are plenty of vitamin C supplements available in the market that you can consume. Apart from that, there are lots of natural vitamin C sources as well. Fruits like oranges, custard apples, grape fruits, guavas, and mangoes are extremely rich in natural vitamin C.
Even vegetables like spinach, potatoes, peas, onions, mushrooms, and cucumber are great sources of vitamin C. These food items serve as natural treatment for this problem.

Steam Inhalation

Boil a bowl of water till it begins steaming, and lower your head to its surface and inhale the steam that is emanating from the container deeply. Be careful so as to not touch the sides of the container as it could burn you. This cleans out your nasal tract and forces the mucus to flow out of your nose easily.
Depending on severity of the condition that you are experiencing, you can try either of these remedies or their combination. This is not a condition that can drastically affect your health as such, but if it persists for a while it can prove to be quite irritating. Building up your body's overall immunity and general defense mechanism will help you prevent mucus in the throat in future.
