Mouth Sores Cure

There are a number of ways to cure mouth sores, which not only treat the sores, but also minimizes the pain and discomfort associated with the condition. This deals with the causes and the treatment options available for the sores appearing in the mouth.
Mouth sores or canker sores, or mouth ulcers are small blisters that appear in the mouth, and could be quite painful. Medically, they are known as recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS), and commonly occur on the tongue, gums, lips, or inside of the cheeks. Along with pain and certain amount of discomfort that these ulcers can cause.
They can also make it difficult for you to eat, drink, and sometimes, even chew. In severe cases, they can also cause fever and swelling of the glands around the mouth. There are a number of home remedies and medications that can be used to treat painful sores. The treatment method to be opted, depends upon its severity and cause.

Causes

Some of the major causes include, nutritional deficiency, use of improper oral care products, like, toothbrushes, toothpastes, and mouthwashes, accidental biting of the tongue, lips, or inside of the cheeks, hormonal disorders, stress, consumption of hot, spicy food, bacterial infections of the mouth, and food allergies.
Other causes include, the consumption of certain medications, like anti-inflammatory drugs, heredity and digestive system disorders. While, mild sores get cured on their own and require no treatment as such, severe mouth sores that are persistent for more than a week need attention and at times, medical treatment may be required.

Home Remedies

Saline Water Mouthwash

A saline water mouthwash is the best known cure for mouth sores. Just add a teaspoon of salt into 2 glasses of lukewarm water, and swish it around your mouth a couple of times, thrice a day. This will help heal and get rid of canker sores quickly. Mouth sores are contagious and the salt water prevents it from spreading to other areas of the mouth.

Aloe Vera Gel

Dab some aloe vera gel on the sore and let it stay for around 10 minutes, and then rinse it off. Aloe vera soothes the ulcer and aids its healing process. It also provides relief from the burning sensation and pain associated with canker sores.

Herbal Mouthwash

Prepare a herbal mouthwash by mixing a tablespoon of coriander seeds with a glass of water. Boil and strain the solution, and swish it around your mouth, three or four times a day.

Dietary Supplements

Consumption of vitamin C, folic acid, and zinc supplements can aid the healing process and provide quick relief.

Benzoin Tincture

It is essential that no further trauma or injury is caused to the healing ulcer. Therefore, to protect it, you must coat it with a tincture of benzoin.

Hydrogen Peroxide

Hydrogen peroxide has strong antiseptic properties, and can prevent the sores from spreading. Apply a layer of dilute hydrogen peroxide solution to the sore and let it reduce the pain while healing the blister. You can dilute hydrogen peroxide, by mixing one part of it with pure mineral water.

Baking Soda

Use a paste made by mixing baking soda and water to coat the ulcer, or use baking soda as a mouth wash to cure the sores.

Honey and Turmeric

You can either apply just honey directly to the affected area or make a paste by mixing it with a little turmeric powder, and apply it to the sore.

Medications

Generally, medicines like antihistamines and anti-inflammatory drugs are prescribed to cure mouth blisters. Corticosteroid preparations that mainly contain hydrocortisone, hemisuccinate, or triamcinolone acetonide are prescribed for pain and inflammation relief associated with the sores.
Topical medications like debacterol and mouthwashes like tetracycline suspension liquid, are also effective in curing canker sores.
The treatment methods mentioned above should be used only after ascertaining the cause of the mouth sore. You must also take added precaution against the development of ulcers by watching what you eat and your overall oral hygiene.
