How to Treat a Stye

An eye stye is a common problem, but its treatment measures are aplenty too. It is possible to cure this condition with stuff that is easily available at home itself.
The condition of inflamed hair follicle of an eyelash is called an eye stye. It is a common eye problem. The gland of the hair follicle gets blocked with bacteria and dirt. As a result, it swells and becomes red. The sore resembles a boil or a pimple on the edge of the eyelid. It is painful and tender to touch.
Though it does not affect the eye, yet, its recurrence may cause annoyance and discomfort to the sufferer.

► Take a warm washcloth in Saran wrap and place it on the affected eyelid. Do it as often as you can.

► Place a moist and warm tea bag on the stye. The tannic acid helps in shrinking the stye. Make sure that the temperature of the tea bag is tolerable to you, when kept on the stye.
► Add a teaspoon of coriander seeds to a glass of water. Boil it for 5 - 10 minutes. Filter the water out and use it to wash the eyelid affected with eye stye.
► Take a cotton swab and dip it in castor oil. Place it on the stye for about 10 - 12 minutes. For best possible results, do it right after using a warm compress, as the pores on the eyelid are open at that time.
► Put a handful of acacia and parsley leaves in a cup of water. Boil it for about 10 minutes. Allow it to cool. Soak a clean cotton cloth in it and then squeeze it to remove excess of water. Place it on the eyes.
► Cut a small piece of dandelion root and boil it in a cup of filtered water for about 5 - 7 minutes. Filter the water out and drink it twice a day. Dandelion is antibiotic in nature, and so will help the body in fighting the bacteria responsible for causing the stye.
► Take a guava leaf and warm it on a pan. Wrap it with a clean cotton cloth. Use it as a compress to relieve pain, irritation, and redness.
► For treating a stye naturally, you can use a homemade eye drop. Take a teaspoon of turmeric powder and mix it well with a cup of water. Boil the mixture till the water gets reduced to half. Filter the mixture 4 - 5 times through a fine muslin. Use this eye drop 3 - 4 times a day.
► Aloe vera has antibiotic, antiseptic, and anti-inflammatory properties. It is well-known for its healing and soothing effects. Slit an aloe vera leaf to take out its pulp. Place it on the eye stye for 1 - 2 hours, and then rinse it off well with cold water. Do this 2 - 3 times a day.
An eye stye will grow more in dirt. Therefore, you should try certain things that can keep the eye clean and free from dirt and germs. Take a piece of cotton cloth and wet it in a mild soap solution. Clean the roots of the eyelashes. Do not touch the stye with your fingers. Also, do not squeeze it.
It will only work towards worsening the condition by spreading it to other parts and fouling the spot. All these suggested home remedies are sure to give you positive results. However, in case you get little or no relief, you should consult a physician for necessary assistance.
