How to Stop Coughing

Cough can be treated with medication and home remedies. Here are some home remedies and useful tips that help in getting rid of cough quickly.
Cough is a reaction that occurs when a foreign particle causes inflammation to the throat or the larynx. It is the body' immediate response in order to get rid of the harmful particles as soon as possible. Cough is a symptom of all respiratory disorders.
Depending on the cause, cough can be differentiated into several types. It can be dry as in whooping cough or smoker's cough, and mucus producing as in bronchitis and common cold. Cough in asthma is of peculiar type which produces a wheezing sound.

Cure Cough with Medication

Many cough syrups and tonics are available over-the-counter. In order to treat cough, you can have medications that suits you and use it according to the given instructions. Medications should be taken only on consulting the doctor.
However, if you observe other symptoms along with cough like chest pain, headache, vomiting, and loss of appetite, it is recommended to consult the doctor rather than relying on home remedies. Cough accompanied with other severe symptoms should be treated with proper medical treatment.

Treat Cough Naturally

Honey

Honey contains cleansing and soothing agents that help in overcoming cough. You can add 1 teaspoon honey to 1 cup of hot milk and drink it once or twice to treat dry cough at night. Honey can also be added to black or lemon tea.

Turmeric

Turmeric is said to be the boon to mankind for its numerous medicinal properties. You can add ½ teaspoon turmeric to 1 glass of milk and have it at night.

Myrrh

Myrrh is a herb having anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. It is available in the form of oil. Add a few drops to myrrh to your body oil and rub on your chest to get rid of cough and sore throat.

Tea

Drinking tea is also very useful in clearing blocked airways and give relieve to the throat. Ginger tea serves the purpose more effectively. But, you can even have black tea with honey and lemon or simply your regular tea 2-3 times a day.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C helps in fighting infection as well as building your immunity to prevent its spread or recurrence. Therefore, it is essential to have a regular dose of vitamin C. Lemon and oranges are rich sources of vitamin C.

Hot Food

As hot foodstuffs help in thinning the mucus, you should include hot peppers or other spices in your food. You can have chicken soup or Mexican or Thai cuisine for the same.

Steam

You can create a pseudo steam sauna in your own bathroom with the help of a hot shower and inhale the steam. Or, you can boil water, add a few drops of eucalyptus oil in it, and inhale the steam. This helps in loosening and getting rid of the mucus quickly.
When combating cough, you should remember to stay away from dairy products and fried foods as they contribute in elevating the symptoms. Lastly, drinking adequate amounts of water and taking complete bed rest is essential to cure cough.
You should consult the doctor before using these remedies, in case you suffer from any chronic disorder, or experience other severe symptoms. Take care!
