Fennel, or commonly known as saunf, is a herb with edible seeds, stem and leaves. It is known to man since ancient times, as the references of various uses of fennel are found in the ancient Greek and Roman civilizations.
Fennel leaves and seeds are used in Indian, Mediterranean, Arabic, and Middle Eastern cuisines. Fennel seeds are used in various cuisines and even chewed as substitutes for mint. The fennel tea, particularly, is known for its several health benefits like its use in the treatment of stomach disorders, inflammation, obesity, etc.

Fennel Tea Benefits

As fennel is rich in fibers and antioxidants, there are several health benefits related to it. It helps in the treatment of stomach and gastrointestinal disorders. Having fennel tea regularly helps in treating acidity, abdominal cramps, abdominal pain, etc. It also helps in the treatment of constipation and flatulence.

Fennel Tea Recipe

You should remember that fennel and anise are two different herbs and should not be confused. Although they taste and smell similar, the two are completely different herbs. You should, therefore, be careful and look for fennel seeds for making this tea. The following is a recipe for making fennel seed tea.

Recipe # 1

Crush 1-2 teaspoons of fennel seeds using a mortal and pestle. Another way is to put the seeds in a zipped bag and crush using a rolling pin. Bring 1 cup of water to boil. Put the crushed fennel seeds in a teapot and pour the boiling water over it. Now let the mixture steep for 2-3 minutes (do not boil). You should cover the pot while steeping. 1 teaspoon of honey can also be added, however, it is optional. Serve hot.

Recipe # 2

This is an Asian or Indian style of making fennel tea. Bring ¾ cup of water to boil. Crush fennel seeds using the aforementioned method. Put the crushed seeds in the boiling water and let it steep for 30-60 seconds. Now, put 1 teaspoon of sugar (or according to your preference), 1 teaspoon tea powder (of any type) and continue heating. Add ½ cup of milk and bring to boil. Take down from heat after boiling, sift in a cup and serve hot.
These are the two popular methods used to make fennel tea. You can follow any of these and have this tea once or twice a day to get rid of any digestive ailments.
