The other name of upset stomach is indigestion. This is a very common digestive problem that affects both kids and adults alike. It may result from digestive tract infection caused by bacteria, virus, or parasites. These microbes mostly enter your body through contaminated food and water.
Besides, unhealthy fast foods, overeating, irregular eating habits, excessive use of strong laxatives, etc., are the other causes. When some unwanted substance enters your body through the digestive tract, it causes irritation in the lining of stomach and intestines.
As a result, diarrhea, vomiting, cramps, fever, loss of appetite, etc., and other such symptoms are observed. Those who suffer from these problems frequently should prefer home remedies for upset stomach.

List of Remedies

Many people prefer curing this problem at home itself when it is not a very serious issue. Others look for remedies simply because they do not want to pop pills. A few excellent indigestion treatments are given below:
Baking Soda: The benefit of using baking soda is that it helps to neutralize the acids in the tummy and provide relief from symptoms of heartburn and acidity. Add half teaspoon of baking soda into one cup of water, stir it well and drink it. It should be repeated after a gap of 2 hours.
Ginger: Ginger can be taken in many different ways. You can have half teaspoon of fresh ginger juice with some honey. It can be taken in the form of ginger tea. Or chewing a piece of candied ginger can give the same soothing effect. Ideally, ginger should be taken twice a day until the condition improves.
Yogurt: Many people consider it to be one of the best treatments for children, as they love to have yogurt. Moreover, it consists of active bacteria that are very useful for the tummy when it is in an upset state. These bacteria help the body to fight off the infection.
Tea: You can use mint tea, as mint can effectively kill the bacteria present in the digestive tract. Green tea is also good for indigestion relief. On the other hand, peppermint is of great help in relaxing the cramped muscles.

Diet

This is a major concern for all of us, because when you eat something, the symptoms of diarrhea and vomiting tend to get aggravated. For this reason, it is advisable to stop eating solid foods for the first few hours after the onset of the symptoms.
During this time, drink fluids in small sips after a gap of every few minutes. Do not drink a large amount of fluid at a time, as it can induce vomiting. As the condition gets better, start a BRAT diet. It includes bananas, boiled white rice, apple sauce, and dry white toast. These are easily digestible foods, and they do not irritate the digestive system.
Besides, they are good source of nutrients too. This diet should be continued for first couple of days or one week and not more than that. During this time, you should stay away from spicy foods, dairy products, raw vegetables like cucumber, cabbage, carrot, etc., as they tend to trigger diarrhea. For the same reason, citrus fruit juice, alcohol, and caffeinated beverages should be avoided.
In cases of excessive diarrhea, it is advisable to consult a doctor for suitable indigestion treatment. Do not try out any antibiotics or any such medicines on your own.
