Gas, upset stomach, constipation are all the outcomes of unhealthy living. Here is some advice on how to keep these stomach ailments at bay.

Gastrointestinal disorders rank top amongst the lifestyle disorders. At least 7 out of every 10 people suffer from some or the other kind of stomach/intestinal problem. Since, most of these conditions are seemingly harmless, people tend to ignore them until the small problem manifests into a serious medical condition.
Gas, upset stomach, constipation, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) are some of the common ailments that plague urban population. These disorders originate from unhealthy food habits, coupled with a sedentary lifestyle.

Causes of Stomach Problems

Gas is a common byproduct of digestive process. It originates from high-fiber fruits and vegetables. Sometimes, gas also forms due to swallowing too much of air while eating or talking. This gas is mainly responsible for bloating and at times, also causes stomach pain.
Upset stomach, on the other hand, is the outcome of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). It refers to a condition, where there is no normal passage of stool.
This condition is close to diarrhea, as the person often passes frequent watery stools. Constant upset stomach indicates that there is something wrong with the foods that you eat, and that there is no proper digestion. Constipation refers to hard stools that are difficult to pass.
It is something that can directly affect the quality of life of a person by making him susceptible to various ailments.

Home Remedies

Certain home remedies can relieve you of gas, upset stomach, constipation, etc. However, home remedies are only effective if your condition is mild or you seldom suffer from stomach ailments. For chronic ailments, you may have to rely on medical treatment. Some remedies that can be prepared at home are as follows.

Lemon Honey Concoction

Kick start your day with a glass of warm water, with a slice of lemon squeezed in and a spoonful of honey. This concoction takes care of all your stomach ailments. However, it is a must that you should not eat or drink anything prior to drinking this concoction.
Apart from relieving gas, it also improves skin complexion, reduces weight, and induces a feeling of healthiness.

Mint Leaves

Mint leaves are an excellent cure for an upset stomach and gas. If possible, chew on 3-4 fresh mint leaves after a meal. If you cannot get fresh mint leaves, you can opt for various mint or peppermint products that are available in the market.

Lemon Soda

If you are going to have a large meal with a lot of fried, processed foods, you can sip lemon soda throughout your meal. Lemon soda prevents the formation of gas and thus, relieves you of bloated stomach after eating. However, make it a point to sip on small portions of soda instead of gulping it down at once.

Carom Seeds

Carom seeds are an excellent upset stomach relief due to their magnificent medicinal properties. Boil some carom seeds in water, and set this water aside. Drink it throughout the day to get relief from your stomach problems.
Alternatively, you may heat some carom seeds in a pan and eat a spoonful of these seeds. Drink a glass of warm water immediately. This is a great remedy, if you have stomach pain due to gas.

Tea

A piping hot cup of tea gives you an instant relief from all the stomach ailments. Herbal tea and green tea are also effective in curing gastrointestinal problems.
Mild stomach problems normally do not need medical intervention and can be cured with little changes in your diet and lifestyle. Along with a healthy diet, it is important to invest some time for exercises. In spite of this, if the problem persists, you may have to seek a proper medical treatment.
