Cinnamon Cassia Oil

Cinnamon and cassia come from the bark of trees or bushes that belong to the laurel family. Cassia is often confused to be cinnamon. However, it is the difference between the two that makes cassia oil so beneficial.
Cinnamon is a spice, which is extracted from an evergreen tree belonging to the family of Lauraceae. A native of Sri Lanka, this spice is well-known in most of the Indian sub continent. Cassia, on the other hand, is the Chinese Cinnamon, which is obviously grown in China.
Cassia is much stronger in flavor than regular cinnamon and differs from the spice, which you'd normally find on your kitchen shelf. The cassia species is commonly and wrongly called cinnamon by a lot of people.
The cinnamon cassia oil is made from Cassia bark, and as the oil is very strong, it has to be used in a certain way to derive maximum benefits from it.

Benefits of Cinnamon Cassia Oil


Dilute a few drops of this oil in water and do a small patch test on your lips. If you experience irritation and it is too much to handle, drop this idea.
It does cause some irritation and tingling, but if it works for you, then you can add the diluted drops to your lip gloss, and use it on a regular basis to get plump and shiny lips.


Common cold is not just about sneezing and pulling up the runny nose, but also about a painful irritating headache. Add a few drops of this oil to boiling water and inhale the steam.
This will wash away the blocked nasal passages and clear the mucous and the nasal discharge providing relief. Make sure you've closed your eyes while inhaling the steam, as the spice can be an irritant to the eyes.


Cassia oil is known to be anti microbial and anti viral in nature. This makes it an effective febrifuge. The oil has a tendency to absorb heat and warm up, if rubbed on the skin and thus, it fights the fever by warming up the body, which in turn reduces the temperature. Rubbing the oil on the skin also, improves blood circulation, which boosts the immune system.


Nausea can lead to vomiting, which can lead to fatigue and dehydration. Cinnamon cassia oil can be used to stop vomiting.
This oil makes the person feel refreshed, which helps the person to recuperate from nausea and vomiting.


It is known to improve blood circulation. This circulatory stimulant, improves the blood flow, warms the joints and other affected areas, which provides relief to the patient suffering from arthritis.


Gases and other stomach related disorders make a person feel very uncomfortable and uneasy. It restricts you from eating food of your choice and many times from wearing clothes of your choice, due to bloating. Carminative properties of cinnamon cassia oil, release the trapped gases in the intestines and prevents its recurrence too.

Other uses

The other benefits include treating uterine hemorrhage, use for its astringent properties, inducing sexual desires or libido, colic, stomach disorder, headaches, flatulence, headaches, and body pains.

Precautions for Using Cinnamon Cassia Essential Oil

You can also use cinnamon cassia essential oil. However, do not use it in the pure form, as it causes irritation and tingling to the skin.
Dilute it with water or with other essential oils of balsam, black pepper, caraway, chamomile, coriander, frankincense, ginger, geranium, nutmeg, and rosemary. Pregnant ladies should avoid this oil completely. If you are using the cinnamon cassia essential oil to cure some problem, consult a doctor and then use it.
