Deepa Kartha
If you are suffering from a black eye bruise, you might want to know a few treatment options to take care of this problem. This story has some effective black eye remedies that you can use to get rid of this condition.
A person usually gets a black eye when he/she is bruised near the eye region or somewhere on the face. However, this is not the only cause. Rather, an individual can have a black eye even due to head injury, allergic reactions, surgical procedures like nose surgery, face lift, etc.
It has been observed that this is the first sign of a facial injury. When the area around the eyes, especially the nose or head gets hit, the fluids and blood gets accumulated under the eye, which makes the area discolored as well as swollen.
However, most of the time, these cases are not very serious and all signs go away within a week's time. Nevertheless, having a black eye is not considered fashionable and most people want to know the ways of getting rid of this condition as soon as possible.

Remedies

Many people take aspirin as a treatment measure. However, this is a very big mistake and should be avoided. This is because aspirin prevents blood clotting, without which it would be impossible to treat the discoloration. Hence, instead of aspirin, it will be better to take an acetaminophen which is a drug that is even recommended by doctors. Apart from that, there are several natural black eye remedies that one can use to cure the problem effectively.

Cold Compresses

Earlier, the black eye was treated by placing a raw steak over it. However, the raw steak did not actually do anything to cure the problem, rather it was the coldness of the steak that helped in the treatment. Hence, one of the best remedies will be the application of cold compresses.
Applying cold compresses like ice packs will lessen the swelling as well as help in putting a stop to internal bleeding. Place some ice cubes in a piece of cloth and make a small bundle. Apply ice pack on the affected area for ten minutes in every two hours. If you cannot get hold of ice, placing a pack of frozen vegetables on the eye is also be a good idea.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is said to be a great remedy for treating bruises and hence, works wonders in case of black eye too. Along with the cold compresses, a person who is suffering from this condition should also make it a point of including foods that contain a high amount of Vitamin C in them. This includes foods like oranges, pineapples, broccoli, papaya, etc.
Among these foods, papaya and pineapple are said to be the best black eye remedies. Experts are of the opinion that these fruits contain an enzyme that helps in changing the molecular structure of the blood, thus helping the bruise to heal quickly. It is also important to take vitamin C supplements for a quick cure.

Proper Rest

One of the reasons that can hamper the treatment is improper or insufficient rest. It has been observed that not sleeping for a sufficient time can cause the condition to become worse. So, giving the eyes proper rest by sleeping well is one of the best black eye remedies.
Even while sleeping, it is important to keep the head elevated by placing some pillows under the head. Also, make sure that you do not sleep on the side which has the black eye, as this can aggravate the bruise.

Simple Home Remedies

Apart from the above natural options, there are some more home remedies that one can try for the treatment. One very good remedy would be to massage the area with olive oil. Applying rose water is also a good option. A slice of peeled potato is also a good way of removing the discoloration under the eyes.
Another home remedy that can speed up the healing process is using a witch hazel compress. For this, soak a piece of cloth in witch hazel and apply it on the affected region.

Warm Compresses

Once the swelling has decreased, one must switch from cold compresses to warm compresses. This is usually done at least 48 hours after one has got the black eye. Warm compresses help in getting rid of blood clots, drying issues, etc. and thus, inducing blood flow in the veins under the eyes.
For applying a warm compress, take warm water in a bowl and soak a cloth in it. Place this wet cloth under the eyes and hold it till the water becomes cold. Repeat this procedure at least 2 - 3 times in a day.
I hope you have got a clear idea about how to care of a black eye with this article. If you do not get any relief even after trying these remedies, it is important to consult the doctor as soon as possible because it may be an indication of a serious problem or injury.
