Also known as Medicago stevia, holy hay, trefoil, and lucerne, the alfalfa tea is a perennial legume and is a member of the pea family. This plant is said to have originated in Asia and Europe. In 490 BC, it is said that Romans used alfalfa to feed their horses. Alfalfa tea has become famous due to the nutritional content it has to offer.

Health Benefits

The tea is a good source of dietary fiber, rich in calcium, chlorine, magnesium, potassium, calcium, sodium, silicon, and vitamins. It is used for treating a number of ailments like lactation. The benefits extend to people suffering from high blood pressure, arthritis, etc. 
Hair loss problems can also be treated with alfalfa. Cardiovascular problems, and stomach and respiratory ailments can be treated with alfalfa.
As it contains eight essential amino acids and is high in proteins, the tea is a source of nutrition for humans as well. The health benefits also include lowering cholesterol. and alleviating colitis and prostate problems.
This herbal medicine is also used for treating appetite loss, low weight problems, and works as a diuretic for alleviating kidney and bladder problems.

Recipes to Make

Tea Prepared with Leaves

Boil one cup of water and add the alfalfa leaves to it. Cover the pot and let the leaves steep for 8 to 10 minutes. Strain the tea, add honey, and enjoy.

Tea Prepared with Seeds

Boil 2 cups of water and add half a teaspoon on crushed alfalfa seeds to it. Let the tea boil for 30 minutes on low heat. Remove the pot from heat and let it steep for 5 minutes. Strain the tea, add honey, and enjoy.
It is recommended that you do not use alfalfa powder to make tea as it may cause health issues like joint problems. If you want to take alfalfa supplements, it is best not to do so without taking medical advice.
